Four students, including a female student of the Peradeniya University, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers who went to watch the one-day match between Australia and Sri Lanka without tickets at the Pallekele Stadium yesterday.

Pallekele Police stated that all four students, including the female student, were drunk at the time.

These students are studying in the fourth year of the Faculty of Arts.

Police say a large number of sports fans were stranded outside the stadium yesterday, unable to enter without tickets. Among them were university students who had started a scuffle by verbally abusing police officers.

According to the Police Headquarters, the police officers have been subjected to criminal coercion while trying to control the university students who behaved in an impulsive and riotous manner.

The four students are residents of Akuramboda, Kurunegala, Koslanda and Kekirawa.
