Racket of selling rented vehicles

The Kegalle Special Crimes Branch has arrested three members of a gang who were engaged in a racket of selling rented vehicles without returning them to their owners.

The scam was uncovered during the investigation of several complaints received by the Kegalle Special Crime Investigation Division regarding 07 incidents of non-return of vehicles obtained on rent basis.

Five cars, two vans and a jeep which are rented were found sold to several residents in Kilinochchi.

It is said that this fraud has been carried out in an organized manner while paying the vehicle rents properly within the first few months.

The arrested suspects are residents of Pilimatalawa and Danture. They are due to be produced before the Mawanella Magistrate today (09).
