Officers of the Sri Lanka Narcotics Control Unit have found a stock of drugs worth around Rs. 20 million in 09 parcels sent from Germany and the Netherlands to an address in Mahiyanganaya.
Customs officers on surveillance duty at the Central Mail Exchange had been keeping a close eye on the 09 parcels. Checking the mailing addresses in Mahiyangana revealed that the addresses were fake and no one had come forward for several days to release the goods. As a result, the customs officers inspected the parcels today and found the drugs.
1985 tablets of drugs called Methamphetamine were found in the parcels. According to the Customs, the drugs weighed 1kg and 116g.
The drugs have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
