The CID has decided to file a case against Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon in the Western Province under Section 216 in the Penal Code, according to the findings of investigations into the attack on the Galle Face protesters.
Senior DIG Kamal Silva, who is in charge of the CID’s investigation into the incident, has written to the CID to seek immediate advice from the Attorney General’s Department and report the matter to the courts under legal provisions.
Mr. Kamal De Silva has also written to the Deputy Inspector General of Police in CID urging the investigating officers to give the necessary instructions and directives to direct the officers to carry out the investigations properly and expeditiously as this investigation is currently being seriously discussed in the legal field and in society and as they have a direct responsibility to carry out this investigation properly.
