Sumana Amarasinghe has passed away

Veteran film actress and film producer Sumana Amarasinghe has passed away today (5).

She was a popular actress in Sri Lankan cinema in the 70’s. After her marriage, she gave priority to film production over acting.

She was married to Roy de Silva, a popular actor and film director in Sinhala cinema, and was 74 years old at the time of her death.

In the 60’s, she won second place in the “Lassana Muhuna” competition organized by the Janatha newspaper.

Sumana Amarasinghe, who entered the film industry from Pipena Kumudu, and starred in a number of films such as ‘Sukiri Kella’, Obai Mamai’, ‘Sunethra’, ‘Rana Giraw’, ‘Me Desa Kumatada’, ‘Dan Mathakada’, ‘Tom Pachaya’, ‘Raa Daniel Dawal Miguel’, ‘Lokuma Hinawa’, ‘Gedra Budun Amma’, ‘Thana Girawi’, ‘Cherio Doctor’, ‘Cheriyo Sergeant’, ‘Kadawunu Poronduwa (New Production)’, ‘Hathara Peraliya’, and Mihindum Sihina.

She also produced many of the films directed by her husband, the late Roy de Silva.

The last rites of the late Sumana Amarasinghe will be announced later.
