The Disaster Management Center informs the public to provide information on unsafe bathing and water sports activities done in reservoirs, waterfalls, lakes, etc. calling the hotline number 117.
The Director-General of the Disaster Management Center, Major General (Retd.) Sudantha Ranasinghe stated that in such cases, the law will be enforced against those who consume alcohol and bathe in reservoirs and other places.
He said that 99% of the deaths due to drowning last year were due to engaging in unsafe water sports after consuming alcohol.
