Mr. Wickramaratne has appeared before the Fort Magistrate’s Court to give reasons for not transferring the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon as per the instructions given by the Attorney General.

The Attorney General has instructed the IGP to transfer Deshabandu Tennakoon from the post of Senior DIG, Western Province, who has been banned from traveling abroad for assaulting Galle Face protesters on the 9th since there are many witnesses in the Western Province and he should be transferred so as not to affect the investigations that are being carried out.

Additional Solicitor General Ayesha Jinasena, who appeared for the Attorney General, stated this before the court during the last hearing.

Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered IGP to give reasons at the next hearing as Deshabandu Tennakoon had not yet been transferred following the instructions of the attorney general.

Accordingly, the IGP has appeared in court today along with SSP Ruwan Gunasekara, a police lawyer.
