Yala target is 500,000 hectares – half already cultivated

The Department of Agriculture states that more than 50% of the land expected to be cultivated during the Yala season has been harvested so far.

 

The Director General of Agriculture, Dr. Ajantha de Silva stated that 261,000 hectares of paddy lands have been cultivated so far.

 

He also stated that it is expected to cultivate 500,000 hectares of paddy lands during the Yala season this year.

 

The Director General also stated that another 100,000 hectares of land has been prepared.

 

He also requested the farmers to start the Yala season cultivation before the first week of next month.
