“I will protect the police officers who work according to the law” – a certificate from the Minister of Police

The Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles has emphasized to the Western Province Chiefs of Police, including the IGP, that they should always perform their duties legally.

Minister Tiran Alles has stated this at a discussion held with the Western Province Police Chiefs at the Ministry in Suhurupaya, Battaramulla yesterday after assuming duties as the Minister of Public Defense.

It is noteworthy that the Minister has given an assurance that he, as the Minister in charge of the Police, will provide protection to every police officer who performs such legal duties.

IGP Senior DIGs, DIGs and Divisional Chiefs of Police were present at the discussion.

The police officers have taken steps to inform the Minister about the legal issues that police officers face in practice when going to perform their duties. After listening to all these, the Minister has informed the officials of his Ministry as well as the police authorities that they should coordinate with the relevant institutions and take immediate action to resolve these issues.

The Minister also informed the police authorities that the Sri Lanka Police should seek the assistance of the Armed Forces in case of uncontrollable incidents as well as in difficult situations.
