The All Ceylon Medical Officers’ Association states that there is a shortage of many medicines in all hospitals throughout the country and that this has caused serious problems to the people.

The Secretary of the All Ceylon Medical Officers’ Association Dr. Jayantha Bandara stated that there is a shortage of many medicines used in the treatment of intensive care units, drugs for non-communicable diseases including diabetes, hypertension, cancer, drugs for kidney patients, laboratory tests, respirators, saline and medicines for diseases such as epilepsy and hepatitis in children.

He added that this situation has created a risk of the health system collapsing.

If the government does not intervene immediately to protect free health care, a continuous strike will be launched without prior notice, he said.
