The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has said that there is a risk of the majority losing their jobs in the future due to the severe economic crisis in the country.
The Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said that due to the economic crisis, many people in the country are at risk of falling below the poverty line.
He was addressing a special lecture in Colombo yesterday afternoon on the topic ‘Sri Lanka’s economy and discussions with the International Monetary Fund’.
He said the country would try to recover by next year but that would not be a completely good situation.
Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka will take strong action in the future to stabilize the country’s economy.
He also said that the special reserves of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka are only sufficient enough to obtain sufficient imports for a week and therefore the situation is more serious.
