The Medical and Civil Rights Physicians’ Trade Union Alliance warns that the country’s people are at risk of severe malnutrition due to food shortages, rising food prices, and the cessation of Thriposha production due to the country’s severe economic crisis.
At present, the urban middle class in rural areas is unable to get a balanced diet and family maintenance is a serious problem for many families, said the Chairman of the union Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa.
Dr. Sanjeewa said that pregnant mothers, nursing mothers, infants, and school children are increasingly susceptible to malnutrition-related diseases.
He added that many families have a large number of members and since the elderly in the families do not have permanent jobs, many families are now in a position to easily satisfy their hunger regardless of the number of meals they need to eat per day or the composition of a meal.
Therefore, the authorities should try to find a solution to the food crisis as soon as possible and take immediate steps to resume the production of Thriposha in the country, he said.
