A person who was engaged in an illegal exchange of foreign currency was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) at Welikada Plaza in Rajagiriya last night along with US $ 50,000 in cash.
The raid was carried out by a team led by STF OIC Chief Inspector Nadeeka Silva.
500 of 100 USD notes were found in the suspect’s luggage in the Welikada Plaza building.
The suspect, identified as Subramaniam Gunaseelan, is a resident of Hatton Abbotsley Estate. Investigations have revealed that he is temporarily residing in Modara Aluthmawatta and is involved in foreign currency smuggling.
The Special Task Force (STF) has launched a search operation for persons involved in the smuggling of foreign currency. The suspect was caught during the operation.
