“We also have to get used to giving up. Otherwise, if you are greedy for positions, you will have to face such consequences,” said the former Minister Chamal Rajapaksa in Parliament today (19).

Commenting on former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Chamal Rajapaksa further said,

“Needless to say about the politics of the Rajapaksas. Started around 1931. Or we cannot do politics for so long. Dinesh Gunawardena’s father Philip Gunawardena and our fathers were involved in politics together. Their politics have been started by mortgaging existing properties and using them for election activities. There are still those properties that cannot be saved; Mortgages that have not been released. It is because of the honest politics that they have been able to engage in politics in those districts from the start until today.

I think it would have been even better if the former Prime Minister had resigned at the end of his two presidential terms. Today we face all the suffering because he did not do that. We have made great sacrifices in more than 50 years of political history. All of that is now lost. We must also practice giving up. If we need to involve in politics further, we should get used to giving up according to the Dhamma.

Otherwise, if we become greedy for these positions, we will have to face such consequences like we are experiencing now. If we make up our minds to resign at the right time, we will be able to continue in politics.”
