The intelligence services had informed the IGP in advance about the Galle Face assault and asked him to pay more attention to security.

In addition, the intelligence sources said that the intelligence units had given the information to several other police chiefs through a WhatsApp message.

IGP C. D. Wickramaratne had informed SSP Deshabandu Tennakoon in charge of the Western Province in writing the day before the attack, along with the relevant intelligence, to take appropriate security measures.

Deshabandu Tennakoon has also instructed the Colombo DIG and the Colombo Central and Colombo South Divisional Police Chiefs to take necessary action as soon as he receive the letter.

In addition, a copy of it has been sent to the Western Provincial Intelligence Division and he asked them to inform him when submitting the next day’s event report on the morning of 09.05.2022 2022.

The attack on the Galle Face area was carried out despite the fact that the intelligence services had clearly provided information and the senior police officers had informed the responsible officers under them.
