Two names were nominated for the post of Deputy Speaker by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuma and the Samagi Jana Balawega.
SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa nominated Rohini Kaviratne and Lakshman Kiriella seconded the motion.
Minister G. L. Peiris then proposed the name of Ajith Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
Wimal Weerawansa asked not to make another joke in Parliament and to present one name after talking to the Prime Minister the former leader of Leader of the Opposition. Many members of the Opposition addressed the gathering.
The Speaker then decides to hold an election.
