People handed over the looted property from Negombo Hotel to the Police

With the launch of police operations to make arrests for people who looted property after attacking and setting fire on a famous hotel in Negombo, various persons have started arriving and handing over their looted goods to the Katana Police Station since this morning.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Eric Perera stated that the police are currently accepting the goods on record. Although no arrests have been made of those who voluntarily handed over the looted goods, steps will be taken to arrest those who are hiding the goods without handing them over.

Mr. Perera said that the police had instructed the public through loudspeakers to hand over the looted items yesterday and when there was no response, the people were compelled to hand over the looted items after searching the houses and taking steps to arrest the looters.

He also said that the property was looted by general public.

Police sources said that a house search operation will be launched after giving some opportunity to hand over the goods. Police have also focused towards the persons who are looting the property and the vehicles carrying the property as they are clearly recorded on the security cameras.
