Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella says that Sajith Premadasa is ready to take over as the Prime Minister of an interim government only if Gotabhaya Rajapaksa steps down from the presidency.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Dayasiri Jayasekara says that it has been decided to extend his support to Sajith Premadasa if he assumes the post of Prime Minister.
He also said that discussions will be held with the members of the 11 parties.
He further stated that the Prime Minister can be appointed first and then the President can resign, but the President should not resign at this moment.
He stressed that then the country would be in a state of anarchy without a President or a Prime Minister if he resigns now.
