A tense situation has arisen in the area where the Avenra Garden Hotel is located in Negombo.
It was sparked by a robbery at the Avenra Garden Hotel, which was set on fire and damaged.
According to police sources, the incident is escalating into a clash between the two parties and even religious leaders have intervened to resolve the situation.
Police say that a group that had entered the area this evening had attacked the residents of the area with swords and damaged several vehicles.
Four persons who were injured in the attack have been admitted to the Negombo Hospital, hospital sources said.
A van, two three-wheelers, eight motorcycles and four bicycles were set on fire and destroyed, Katana Police said.
When inquired by Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, he stated that the police have taken steps to maintain peace by resolving the situation.
