Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva visited the Jaffna Peninsula yesterday (08) and the day before yesterday (07).
During the visit, the Commander participated in a number of community outreach programs, including the inauguration of the Sports, Recreation and Education Support Park, built by the Army under the command of Commander of the 51 Infantry Division Major General Chandana Wickramarasinghe.
The Commander then graced the occasion by donating school shoes to a large number of students from low income families in the area.
In particular, during the visit, General Shavendra Silva symbolically handed over to the family members the new house built for a low income family in Sangili North, Kankesanthurai with the assistance of the Army.
