A group of local government representatives and trade union leaders of the Sri Lanka Podijana Peramuma (SLPP) are to hold a protest in front of Temple Trees tomorrow (09) to demand that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa not to resign.
It is reported that the protest in support of Mahinda Rajapaksa under the theme ‘Maubimata Panapewu Nayakaya Wenuwen Api’ will be held tomorrow at 9 am in front of Temple Trees, Colombo.
They also said that a group of local government representatives and trade union leaders had met the Prime Minister on Saturday morning and questioned him as to why Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa should step down while a group of people in the country were protesting and saying ‘gota go home.’
The local government representatives said that the Prime Minister had made it clear to himself and others at Temple Trees that he would not resign from the post of Prime Minister.
When inquired about this, representatives of several local government bodies said,
“We stand unconditionally for Mahinda Rajapaksa. He developed this country and ended the war. It was because of the Prime Minister that Gotabhaya was able to contest the Presidential election. The people of this country did not vote for Gotabhaya but for Mahinda. Therefore we are bringing in people from different areas to the Temple Trees,” they said.
