The Cabinet yesterday focused on providing relief to low-income families who are facing difficulties due to the current economic crisis in the country.
The statement issued by the Cabinet Office in this regard is as follows.
The Government has identified the need to provide immediate relief to low-income families receiving Samurdhi, Elderly, Kidney and Disability Allowances and their families who are on the waiting list to receive such allowances due to the current economic crisis in the country.
It has been agreed to provide the necessary funding for this project using indeterminate emergency response components of projects funded by the World Bank Group.
Accordingly, the proposals made by the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Samurdhi Development with regard to taking necessary steps to provide a special cash allowance to provide the relevant relief to the identified beneficiary families from May to July were approved by the Cabinet.
