Ministerial Subcommittee to study the New Draft Constitution

It has been decided to appoint a ministerial subcommittee to study the new draft constitution and make recommendations.

The statement issued by the Cabinet Office in this regard is as follows.

It was decided at the Cabinet meeting held on 09-09-2020 to appoint a committee of legal experts under the chairmanship of Mr. Romesh de Silva, PC, to draft a new constitution.

The four-member subcommittee was approved by the cabinet meeting held yesterday.

Accordingly, the preliminary report of that committee has been submitted to His Excellency the President on 25-04-2022. The Cabinet of Ministers decided to appoint a Sub-Committee consisting of the following Ministers to study the contents of that report and make appropriate recommendations to the Cabinet:
