A girl who was studying with a kerosene lamp when the power was cut off has been burnt to death by a fire caused by overturning the kerosene lamp.
The incident took place last night in the Sandilipay area of the Jaffna Manipay Police Division.
The deceased has been identified as a 16 year old school girl who was preparing to sit for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination this year.
Police investigations have revealed that the fire caused by the overturning of the bottle lamp had spread to a petrol bottle kept by her father in the house.
Manipay police are conducting investigations.
