Letters of credit have been issued to import chemical fertilizer for the Yala season

Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Janaka Wakkumbura has instructed the relevant officials to take steps to import the required chemical fertilizers for the forthcoming Yala season and provide them expeditiously.

Joining a discussion with fertilizer suppliers and Ministry officials at the Ministry of Agriculture he also stated that solid organic manure and liquid manure required for the Yala season will be provided without any shortage.

Minister said that the Letters of credit have already been issued for the importation of chemical fertilizers targeting the Yala season and also pointed out that the fertilizer will be imported and distributed through government fertilizer companies expeditiously.

Commenting on the problems pointed out by the organic fertilizer suppliers, the Minister said that the Ministry of Finance has taken steps to release the necessary funds through the General Treasury to solve the problems of the suppliers.

He advised the District Directors of Agriculture to submit a report to the Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture on the progress of the recently launched ‘Saubhagya Gewathu Waga Sangramaya’ program.

Mr. Shantha Bandara, State Minister of Agriculture, officials of the Ministry, officials of the National Fertilizer Secretariat, suppliers of organic fertilizers, suppliers of chemical fertilizers, District Secretaries through online methodology, Director General of the Department of Agriculture and District Directors of Agriculture were also present on this occasion.
