The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka today called on the public to suspend all construction for at least three months.

Its chairman Susantha Liyanarachchi said that due to the increase in cement prices, the construction industry has come to a juncture that could not continue further.

Cement prices have been increased with effect from midnight yesterday (25).

Accordingly, the price of a locally-made bag of cement was increased by Rs. 400 and a foreign-made bag of cement by Rs. 500.

Accordingly, a locally-made bag of cement now sells for Rs. 2750 while a foreign-made bag of cement sells for Rs. 2850.
