Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says that despite requests to increase the electricity bill charges, no decision has been taken so far.
He has made these comments in response to the rumors circulating on social media.
The Minister pointed out that this is not the first time that the Public Utilities Commission has approved the proposed bill amount revisions by the Ceylon Electricity Board.
He also stated that these requests have been made on a number of occasions since 2015.
Tarrif Revisions can’t be made only upon Public Utilities Commission’s approval.
He added that the Cabinet has the power to implement, amend or reject the resolution.
