Central Province Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena has been summoned to Colombo as the Chief of Police in charge of the Police Assistant Service with immediate effect.
Accordingly, Senior DIG Priyantha Weerasuriya has been appointed as the new Chief of Police in charge of the Central Province.
The transfers were ordered by the IGP with the approval of the Secretary of Public Security, subject to the approval of the Public Service Commission.
However, there is a possibility of another change in the next few days as another senior IGP is in fond of the post of Chief of Police in charge of the Central Province, according to the Police Headquarters.
Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya is currently in charge of the security of Parliament.
