Food prices around the world have skyrocketed in the past month, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
The organization points out that this is the highest price ever recorded for food.
According to a report released by the organization this month, the World Food Program’s FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) averaged 159.3 points in March 2022.
It has risen 17.9 points (12.6%) since February.
This program reflects the highest value since the calculation began in 1990.
Prices of vegetable oils, grains and meat products, sugar and dairy products also rose significantly.
Cereal prices, including wheat, rose 19.7 percent last month. This is an increase of 17.1% over February.
Vegetable oil prices rose 23.2% in March compared to February.
Sugar prices also rose by 6.7% last month compared to February.
World milk prices have risen by 23.6% this year compared to the previous year. This is an increase of 2.6% over February.
