The Court of Appeal today ordered the release of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP Premalal Jayasekara from the death penalty.
The decision was announced today after hearing a petition filed by Jayasekara.
In his petition, the MP had asked the court to acquit him of the death penalty and all other charges imposed on him in connection with the case.
The petition was filed by MP Primalal Jayasekara along with three others who were sentenced to death.
Primalal Jayasekara was sentenced to death in July 2020 by the Ratnapura High Court on charges of murdering a man in Kahawatta in 2015.
