The BIMSTEC Conference on Multilateral Technical and Economic Cooperation with the participation of representatives from the Bay of Bengal is scheduled to commence today (28) in Colombo.
The 5th edition of the BIMSTEC Senior Officials Meeting and Cabinet Meeting will be attended by senior officials and Foreign Ministers from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Thailand.
The session will be chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Tenzin Lekfel, Secretary-General of BIMSTEC and Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. S.K. Jayashankar is already here.
The conference is expected to discuss the progress of BIMSTEC as a regional group, adopt the BIMSTEC Charter and sign a number of legal agreements.
The BIMSTEC Summit will run until the 30th.
