Former Prime Minister and Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe says that new laws are needed to impose a supervisory role on Parliament regarding the Central Bank.

He stressed at the All Party Conference today that such steps should be taken to prevent the fiscal deficit that is currently in progress.

Mr. Wickremasinghe said that the only option for the country now was to reach an agreement with several friendly nations that could help our country.

He said those countries should include India, Japan, China and the European Union (EU), which works with the International Monetary Fund.

Mr. Wickremesinghe also recalled that Sri Lanka had a similar unity during the period from 2002 to 2004 when the economy collapsed and peace talks were held.
