The Attorney General informed the Court of Appeal today that steps would be taken to pay the arrears of salaries and allowances of Dr. Shafi Sahabdeen, who was suspended on charges of making mothers infertile while working as an obstetrician and gynecologist at the Kurunegala Hospital.
That is by informing the decision of the Director-General of Establishments of the Ministry of Public Administration.
Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena appeared on behalf of the Attorney General made this announcement.
These facts were raised while considering the Fundamental Rights Petition filed by Dr. Shafi Sahabdeen before the Court of Appeal.
The petition was taken up before a bench of Justices of the Court of Appeal comprising Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.
The Director of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital Chandana Kandangamuwa and the Attorney General have been named as respondents in this petition.
Further consideration of the petition was adjourned till May 31.
