Hurricane in bay of Bengal – Here’s Met. Department’s message for fishermen

The Department of Meteorology warns that the prevailing depression in the Bay of Bengal may develop into a hurricane in the next 48 hours.

The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources warns fishermen to refrain from fishing and practicing navy activities in the Bay of Bengal until further notice.

Meanwhile, showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today (20).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva, Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2.00 pm today (20).

Wind speeds will increase up to 40 kmph at times in the North and North Central Provinces and in the Hambantota District.
