Sarath Weerasekera attend to the World Police Conference

Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, Minister of Public Defense has represented Sri Lanka at the World Police Conference in Dubai.

The World Police Conference is seen as a global platform for international police and law enforcement officers as well as professionals to engage with governments and policymakers.

The conference started yesterday (14) and will continue until the 17th. This year’s World Police Conference, hosted by the Dubai Police, will feature six conferences and five special occasions.

Seminars will be held on crime prevention, controlling the use of social media by children, and the use of digital platforms to gather drug intelligence. In addition, a drone conference will also be held this year.

The conference will provide an opportunity for the police and law enforcement agencies to source modern technologies, discuss key trends and address the challenges and priorities created by smart cities, cybercrime, rapid population growth and urbanization. It also focuses on the evolution of digital technologies, resource scarcity, and the post-epidemic impact on public safety and security.

Defense Minister Sarath Weerasekara, who is representing Sri Lanka at the World Police Conference, also met with Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai.

He also met Dr. Ahmed Naser Al Raisi, Chairman of the Interpol and Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police Lieutenant General Abdullah Al-Marri, and held discussions.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the Chiefs of Police have discussed the possibility of working together as a team to prevent crime, terrorism, and other threats at this annual meeting.

Ministry of Public Security announces that this World Police Conference is considered a great foundation to improve the quality of the police service and also mentioned that the Minister of Public Defense Sarath Weerasekara was invited to the conference by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The statement added that law enforcement relations between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates have been strengthened through several meetings since 2021.
