Remarkable growth in the tourist arrivals within this year

Tourist arrivals in the first 65 days of this year have exceeded 200,000.

Accordingly, the number of tourists who arrived in the country from January 1 to March 06 this year was 200,798, said Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

According to the Tourism Development Authority, 21,964 tourists arrived in the country during the first six days of March this year.

The country received 82,327 tourists in January and 96,507 in February. This is the highest number of tourists visiting the country in a month after two years. According to the Tourism Development Authority, most tourists in March came from India. That number is 4,395.

3,094 tourists have arrived from Russian Federation, 2,240 from Germany and 969 from France. When considering the reports of the last two months, the highest number of tourists to Sri Lanka has been recorded from the Russian Federation.

Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga stated that Sri Lanka is currently paying special attention to the new tourism market targets in the world. The Minister pointed out that a number of countries that had not previously promoted Sri Lanka as a tourist destination are currently being spotted and special promotion programs have been planned targeting those countries.

In addition, a global tourism promotion program is planned to be launched this year. Accordingly, the minsiter said that these activities will be carried out.
