Kinniya Police have arrested three persons who were fleeing on a motorcycle after firing on two motorcyclists with a T-56 assault rifle in the Kinniya Mahamaru Nadauttu Tsunami Village last night.
The suspects are residents of Kinniya and based on information obtained from interrogations, the T-56 weapon used in the shooting was found hidden near the Nandukuda lagoon with ammunition.
The suspects are aged 30, 43 and 54.
The other two motorcyclists were not killed in the shootings. However, they were admitted to the Kinniya Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to the Trincomalee Hospital for further treatment.
Police say the shooting was the result of a personal dispute between the two sides. The injured were aged between 30 and 33 and residents of Kutinakarachchi, Kinniya.
The suspects are due to be produced in court today.
