The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal has advised banks and financial institutions to increase bank interest rates.
He also said that banks and financial institutions need to raise bank interest rates to attract more cash deposits.
In addition he said, banks and financial institutions have been instructed to increase interest rates on credit cards by 20%, interest rates of temporary bank overdrafts by 18% and mortgage interest rates by 12%.
