The maximum retail price of a 500 mg paracetamol tablet has been announced as Rs. 2.30 with a special gazette notification signed by the Minister of Health Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella.
The Minister of Health has issued this gazette notification under the National Drug Regulatory Authority Act with effect from 28 February 2022.
The previous maximum retail price for the Paracetamol was Rs. 1.70. Accordingly, the new gazette notification has resulted in an increase in prices.
There has been a shortage of paracetamol across the country in recent days. The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association stated that no manufacturer is able to sell paracetamol at the maximum retail price in the country during the current situation. The reason for this is the increase in the price of raw materials for the production of paracetamol in the face of the current economic crisis in the country.
