Janaka Ratnayake, Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) has stated that President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has informed him that immediate steps will be taken to avert the current power crisis.

President Rajapaksa said that the President had instructed the Treasury and the Central Bank to facilitate the importation of fuel for power generation.

A seven-and-a-half-hour power cut will take place today, the chairman said at a media briefing yesterday. He strongly blamed the government for the power crisis. He emphasized that even though the President had instructed the Treasury and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to provide the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation with the foreign exchange required for fuel imports, it did not appear that the relevant parties had acted in accordance with those instructions.
