A proposal from the Governor of the Central Bank to reduce the number of working days in the week to 04

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal has submitted a proposal to the government to reduce the number of working days to four per week to prevent the economy from collapsing due to the crisis the country is currently facing with the dollar deficit.

He proposes to reduce the number of working days in the week by extending the working hours on other working days. It is proposed to start the work of the institutions at 7.30 am and finish at 5.30 pm.

The Governor of the Central Bank has also suggested that the use of private vehicles should be discouraged and diverting them to use public transport as a solution to the fuel crisis. It is also proposed by the media to raise awareness on fuel saving.

The proposal also includes a significant increase in fuel prices to minimize the losses of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
