Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said he warned of a fuel shortage in Sri Lanka in the near future.

Making remarks at an event organized his party ‘Pivithuru Hela Urumaya(PHU), he said he could ensure relief for people only if taxes on fuel were scrapped by the Central Bank.

He said the dollar crisis would have hit fuel imports first but he managed to ensure a steady supply for the last eight months, but the same assurance could not be given any longer.

He said the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was facing not only a dollar crisis but also a rupee crisis.
