Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy states that the daily loss of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is 551 million rupees.

He also stated at a media briefing held today that Sri Lanka has the lowest diesel price in South Asia.

Only 21 countries in the world sell diesel for a lesser price than Sri Lanka, he said.

However, those countries are good oil-producing countries, he said.

He also stressed that the price of diesel in India is more than double the price of diesel in Sri Lanka.

“India is poorer than we are … Government of India is rich but people are poorer than us. Per capita income is very low. But the price of diesel in India is more than double the price of diesel in Sri Lanka. Only twenty-one countries in the world sell diesel for a lesser price than Sri Lanka.

According to the calculations of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, petrol is being sold at a loss of Rs. 13 per liter for 92 octane, Rs. 17 per liter for 95 Octane, Rs. 52 per liter of diesel, Rs. 55 per liter of super diesel and Rs. 63 per liter of kerosene. Accordingly, the loss incurred by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation per day is five hundred and fifty one million rupees.” He said.

It is reported that there is a shortage of fuel at some petrol stations in the island at present.

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila has stated that there is no shortage of fuel in the country and that the Petroleum Corporation has the required stocks of fuel.

Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy stated that if anyone suspects that fuel prices have gone up, they can inform the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) over the phone and resolve the issue with the intervention of the relevant officials.

The Minister said that there is no shortage of fuel in the country at present and that the Petroleum Corporation has the required fuel stocks.
