Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for shooting an 11-year-old boy in the mouth with a locally made shotgun.
The suspect, who is also a relative of the child, had fired the shots yesterday.
The child who was seriously injured in the mouth is currently receiving treatment at the Badulla General Hospital. Doctors have confirmed that he is not in danger of death, police said.
Investigations have revealed that the shooting was a joke and that the shot was fired by mistake.
Police have also recovered the firearm used in the shooting.
