Body found in Wellawatta beach belongs to a Maldivian student

The body of Afham Nasir, a Maldivian national, which was found off the Wellawatte beach in Dehiwala has been identified by his family, Maldives News reports.

It is said that he was studying at a private university in this country.

Afham Nasir, 21, was born on the island of Meeru in the Maldives.

He was reported missing while residing in Sri Lanka as a student last Friday and a search operation was launched on the same day.

Two bodies have been found near the Dehiwala beach and one of them has been identified as Afham Nasir.

The media also reported that a number of cutting wounds were found on the bodies.

Afham’s family has confirmed that the body found in Sri Lanka was him.

However, the family said they did not know much about the inquest into his death and further details.

The death of the Maldivian national in Sri Lanka has been brought to the attention of the Sri Lankan authorities, the Maldivian Police said.

The Maldivian police are currently cooperating with the relevant agencies regarding the incident, the Maldivian police spokesman said.

It is reported that the distance between the bodies found on the beach in Dehiwala is about 300 meters.

A knife was also found near where the second body was found.

The video also shows both bodies wounded, according to local news reports.

According to media reports, the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the regional police of both countries are working together regarding the death.
