The Ministry of Technology states that the process of making the standard certification mandatory for gas stoves used in the country has been expedited.

The Ministry states that the relevant laws will be formulated within the next two weeks.

The decision was made following observations of explosions and fires caused by gas leaks reported in the past.

The Ministry further stated that 11 factors have contributed to the explosions and fires and the necessary solutions have been provided for 07 of them so far.

Although steps have been taken to legislate on three other issues, if such standards are enforced, the people of this country will have to spend a lot of money to buy a gas stove.

Therefore, it was decided to delay the decision. Accordingly, several companies are currently working to manufacture standard gas stoves in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Technology said.
