The Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association says that the price of a book will have to be increased by 50% due to the price of paper in the market.
The secretary of the association Upali Wanigasuriya said that the decision was taken due to the current crisis in the dollar as the prices of 70 GSM paper used for book publishing have also increased by Rs. 2000.
He said that a roll of paper which was Rs. 3,000 in the market has now increased to Rs. 5,000.
He further stated that book publishing houses have been closed down due to the high price of raw materials.
