Another power plant shut down – Final decision on power cuts to be announced

It is to be decided today whether there will be a power cut in the coming days.

This decision is based on the current status of the power plants, the current demand for electricity, the fuel level and the performance of the power plants.

Janaka Ratnayake, Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, said in an interview with a well-known television channel that water and electricity could be maintained without any cuts until the 30th of next month if utilized in a thrifty manner.

However, as of last night, the power supply from the Kelanitissa Sojit Private Power Plant to the national grid had been disrupted due to necessary maintenance that forced the plant to shut down.

It added more than 100 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
