Sri Lanka’s Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has submitted a cabinet memorandum to the Cabinet on Monday (24) allowing only the importation of electric vehicles.

“The President has expressed interest in the renewable energy sector. We have to go for this at a time when the whole world is talking only about it,” he said at a public meeting in Kandy.

Mr. Amaraweera said he was pleased when the President presented his policy statement in Parliament recently, saying that electric vehicles would be given priority during the discussion about vehicle imports.
