Ratmalana airport resumes international flights after 54 years

International flights will commence from the Colombo International Airport, known as Ratmalana Airport from the 29th of this month after 54 years.

Minister of State for Aviation Investment Zone Development D. V. Chanaka says that new airlines will be launched especially to South India and Male focusing on Ratmalana.

Accordingly, two airlines have already agreed to launch regional international flights to India and the Maldives.

He said talks are underway with several other airlines and those talks are also optimistic.

Ratmalana International Airport was established in 1938.

Due to the commencement of flights from Katunayake International Airport in 1968, regional international flights were stopped.

A local aviation hub, an entertainment aviation center, and an aviation training center are being developed there.

In addition, measures will be taken to promote the importation of private jets to Sri Lanka targeting high-income earners and to meet the requirements of technical parking services and jet refueling for private jets.

In addition, promotions are expected to be launched at Ratmalana Airport for international commercial and corporate flights as well as private jet operations.

This action will be taken focussing on the high-income earners and to bring them to Sri Lanka.

Ratmalana Airport will also have facilities for technical parking services for private jets and refueling for jets.

State Minister of Aviation Investment Zone Development D. V. Chanaka stated that these services are expected to be further promoted in the future.

These facts were revealed during a discussion held at the State Ministry of Aviation Investment Zone Development on the development of Ratmalana Airport.
